About Alan Taback Art
“With the recent passing of my wife, Louise Taback, Alan Taback Art enters a new phase. My life partner of over 68 years, Louise had been my muse, my business manager and the glue that held everything together. As I enter this new phase of art and life, our memories will always be with me and they will continue to impact the development of my work."
-Alan Taback
Alan & Louise lived, traveled, and painted in many parts of the world, including Greece, Nepal, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Maine. Together, from 2003 - 2006, the they opened and successfully ran the Spirit Art Gallery in Jerome, Arizona, a well-loved space in the community. Louise functioned as the primary renovator, designer, and curator of the gallery, inviting select artists from the region to display their work.
Alan was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1939. For nearly forty years, Alan coached basketball and painted in the greater Trenton and Princeton areas. He led the Princeton Day School basketball team to seven straight state championships from 1973 to 1980. It was during that period that he visited the artist Anne Packard and painted his very first painting in her studio. She adamantly encouraged him to pursue painting.
Alan took her advice, retired from coaching, and turned to painting full time. Alan's paintings are a celebration of the pure passions of life. Painted with acrylics and oils, his work is alive with rhythm, movement, and harmony. Alan has been influenced by the work of Monet, van Gogh, Kokashka, and deKooning.
Alan has had the opportunity to study with and draw inspiration from artists such as Henry Herrache, Portland artist Melinda Thorsnes, Mark Bockrath of the Pennsylvania Academy, and the late Louisa McElwain, who encouraged him to move more freely in his technique and channel energy beyond himself.
Alan resides in Blawenburg, NJ. His daughter Jennifer, and son-in-law Tony, live in Los Angeles.
